One has to wonder why a sect of society is hated merely for being merchants and lenders. If it weren't for either, society would have never advanced as it did. In the past, those responsible for the hate, such as a few overindulgent monarchs, over-borrowed to such an extent that they couldn't pay back the debt. One of them persecuted both Christians and Jews because he had over-borrowed from both. That was Philip the Fair, by the way. The idea that usury is somehow wrong is absurd in my opinion. I never did care much about what two of the Abrahamic religions thought about it.
