  1. Being stoic and fortified about matters, and seeking a better life for yourself and your family, though, isn't NPD. That is stoicism, which was once taught to all young men and even women. It was about “keeping a stiff upper lip.” You don't allow matters, even if quite gruesome, to consume or bother you, and you strive to live a good life. You can grasp for the golden ring without being narcissistic.
