Same in the US, Simon. However, we had some prosecuted under our state sodomy laws, which included buggery within the legal definition, but it was mainly because they were a target over something else, such as being a radical protester. Otherwise, nobody else was bothered. The Mann Act, along with a tax audit were other favorites used on targets.
In the US, we had eugenics abortions back in the 1960s-70s. I remember one case where a married couple were both intellectually disabled, and the wife also worked as a prostitute. They ended up with a slew of children, and nobody really knew who the father's were, except for, maybe, the husband. She was forced to have an abortion by the state (Kentucky), and have a tubal ligation. The children were taken, and placed into a home, because the couple weren't capable of taking care of them.
The government was behind the push for women to enter the workplace, as that increased tax revenue, and kept them from wanting to have a family. The movement hit the US just after it did in the UK.
