Oil boomed over the Baku oil field, where they first started distilling Kerosene from the oil. That was where drilling began, and where the Nobel brothers really made their fortunes. Then, it was found in the US, in Pennsylvania, where the rush started. It makes one wonder why they reared up against it back then, unless it was some of the elite that wasn't getting their slice of the pie. BTW, this eventually led to the creation of the Seven Sisters, and then, OPEC.
