There was a huge police crackdown in the DR several years ago, and it was over some very bad things taking place there. It was before 2020, and I imagine that tighter policing of immigration resulted from it as well. They had to bring in their military to help police the beaches over what was occurring for a while. To be honest, I look for the DR to take over Haiti, if they can find the funding from the West to do it. Haiti is the worst failed state that exists at the moment.

@gbentley8176 I hadn't heard about it, but I could sure see reprisals coming. It's a mob-ruled state under several gangs. I hate to say it, but I believe that the rest of the West has washed their hands of them. Every time the US has stepped in, it has fallen apart in no time. Then, there is the DR having to put up with them as neighbors. I'm sure you know what that crackdown was about, as well, as many of those kids had arrived from across the border.
