That's because socialism, which is behind this, was born from a religious movement known as Christian Socialism and their "social gospel." It's why they have martyrs and seem to always be on a crusade. Marx merely hijacked the movement for the academic atheists, even though it was still being preached all around him.
When you view the history videos about the roots of socialism, they seem to always start with Robert Owen, but it's much older than that, and it was, indeed, a religious movement formed by the Protestants. It came from the radical and communal sects that arose, such as the Unitarians, Anabaptists, Brownists, Quakers, and Shakers. Owen's utopian communal ideas came from them, as well as from early socialism in France, which was also a product of these same religious sects that had spread there.
This is the elephant in the room that nobody wants to speak of. It's why their beliefs hold no water, since they're only for the idealists among us, not the realists.
