The wanton destruction of the nation state and national borders has always been the belief of one political group that I know of, and the leader of that group was Leon Trotsky at one time. They called themselves "internationalists," and their meetings were known as the first, second, third, and fourth international. They were international socialists.
Trotsky and his followers despised Stalin because they thought that he did not want to abandon the Russian nation state and spread communism internationally, so, thus, they labeled Stalin a nationalist and an enemy.
Of course, this ideology never died with Trotsky, but expanded, and we have what we have today: those trying to destroy the nation states and borders. They have no loyalty to any nation, but they do have loyalty to one specific political ideology.
