  1. They've been used by several nations, but people seem to ignore that history. Go back to the US Civil War, and look at who was locked up. Martial law, and suspended constitution.

  2. There were also at least three German internment camps in Texas during WWII. I'm pretty sure there were others across the US too. During this same time frame, the USSR had their military stationed within US bases, and according to witness accounts testifying before Congress, military and nuclear secrets were smuggled out, which aided Moscow leading to the Cold War. FDR seemed to be more cozy with Stalin that Churchill.

  3.  Michelle  If your ethnicity or nationality were tied to the Axis, you became suspect, and you were rounded up. Funny thing about Italians, though. The US Govt used the mafioso to not only break the strikes at the docks, they were used to guard them over German infiltration. On top of that, they were used to bust up German American Bund rallies within the US. In Sicily, the mob helped to destabilize the German occupation, so the Allies could easily take it, and use it to stage the invasion. Operation Underworld was how Lucky Luciano was released, and it began the government's long association with them.
