It's funny that you should mention communist dictators, as all the way through this, I was reminded of reading about Trotsky, and him giving the same excuse about the necessity of forced compulsory (slave) labor when confronted.
After they had collapsed their economy, they used that as the necessity to bring about compulsory labor with an army of farmers, or those locked in the gulags, etc.
Of course, all of them, from Marx on, spoke of compulsory labor, as did Babeuf in revolutionary France, who came up with the word, the communiste.
What I was never able to understand, is that the very people that follow this brand of politics claim to be against slavery.
