You are not responsible. There is no such thing in common law as the descendants being made to suffer for the actions of their forefathers. In fact, to do so would be a form of slavery, such as being born into a criminal liability, which some seem very keen to push today. Keep in mind that before the Civil War ended in the US, slavery was legal, and post-war, nobody owned slaves, thus, nobody born after is culpable. The slaveholders themselves weren't either, because they released the slaves they owned.
What some push, today, would place any descendant as being a child born into a form of servitude after the fact. It's similar to the old "original sin" fallacy of the Catholic religion.
