The term is misused a lot over their ties to the Marxist movement, and what happened in Russia. The problem is, not all were Marxists, especially over religious beliefs, and if that was who they wanted to identify, then they would be better off speaking of Red Russians, or Bolsheviks and Mensheviks.
They were in the White Russians, or the White Guard, too, who fought for the Tsar's government, and there could have been some on the Green Russian side, but on that, I don't know, as not much history has been penned about them.
