The socialists see themselves as different from the communists, even though they have the same roots, as they split off during the early twentieth century. Socialists have always been in bed with the Muslims. The socialists were behind converting several mainstream Christian sects to their beliefs, and they were successful in converting many Muslims as well. The Baath Party and Saddam's government was an example, and that party still exists in Syria. Some used to side with the Soviets, while others were very open to Germany. Look into Christian Socialism, Christian Communism, and the "social gospel."
