@robinmorritt7493 Yes, it was mainly Brazil at first. The first plantations in the Caribbean were tobacco, and I think a few other things, where they depended on indentured servants to run them until the Drax family came to Barbados.
The Drax family ended up with several tobacco plantations, but the market bottomed, so they looked for something else. It was said that a neighboring Dutch farmer taught him how to plant cane, and if I recall, they trace that farmer back to Brazil. The Dutch were there, and in Trinidad.
After the Draxes became successful, they claim that they were the first to start importing slaves to replace indentured servants. There, in Barbados, the family built Drax Hall.
I believe that it was one of the sons that started the operations in Jamaica. They had a Drax Hall there as well close to St. Ann's Bay.
However, Brazil was sent the majority of the slaves.
