Britain has contributed much to the several branches of engineering. They had a very good electronics industry, at one time, as I use Racal Dana test equipment to this very day, manufactured through the seventies and eighties. My main RF and two-tone generators are by Racal, as well as my frequency counter, and a bench DMM. I also have an old Marconi LCR bridge that still works well. They're built well, and this is a Yank stating that.

And the “net” in internet was a wartime invention of Britain, if I recall. The telephone lines were connected so that if one was brought down, it could be quickly bypassed by others via switches.
