In the US, a physician (general practitioner or internist) makes about $150,000 to $200,000 per year. Some surgeons or specialists make more, but that is about the going rate. Keep in mind that they are on the hook for paying back their student, as well as other, loans, and it's worse if they buy out a small clinic to run. Now, most work for physician groups or hospital-owned clinics. However, I hear that they don't pay as well in the UK, and it's worse.
