@shupichii9647 That's very close. The states all gave themselves the power to levy taxes, thus, they tax the property value. However, it's much cheaper than rent.
Also, in the US and Britain, for instance, you can inherit property, or the owner can leave it to whom they wish. That's what a freehold is all about. The other method is to rent or lease. However, if you own the property, and have a freehold on it, you can do with it as you wish, unless you're foolish enough to buy one tied to a HOA. Ours did have a few rules, but over the years, they've dwindled away.
There's a huge difference, though, in having a freehold ownership of property compared to leasing from the state, when looking at one's rights to do with the land and buildings how they wish, and being paid for it if the state needs to take it over eminent domain. At that, they can only take it for public use, such as a road, and they have to pay you for it.
