There are many electronic components that are not made in the US anymore, and I can see the chip not being made here. A good majority of those items were outsourced many years ago to Asian companies. IC's, from National, Texas Instruments, etc, are pretty much all made outside the US. What's appalling, is that they can't find a cheap source for rubber o-rings in the US. Of course, Maglite could purchase the material from an extruder, and make their own o-rings. The chips, though, they would be lucky to find a US source anywhere.
