  1. Amazing? No, as it wouldn't be for anyone who knows their history. Remember what the Jacobins did in Revolutionary France? Remember what the followers of Babeuf (the first Communist), the Hébertists, and the Cordeliers under Danton, all within the Jacobins, did to the Girondin moderates? The Reign of Terror and the Conspiracy of the Equals? Those same Jacobins who came to the US, and those like Elihu Palmer, became today's Democrats in the US. Did you wonder why the Republicans, who were the moderates, broke away in 1824? In 1798, George Washinton wrote to the Sec. of War under Adams: "that you could as soon scrub the blackamoor white, as to change the principles of a professed Democrat; and that he will leave nothing unattempted to overturn the Government of this Country".
