The truth is, they fled the D Party for the R over their hatred for Stalin. They lied, claiming they were anti-communists. Trotsky was pro-war, anti-nationalist, and wanted to spread communism worldwide. Many of his followers tried to distance themselves from Marx, even criticizing him, and started following Maoism.
