All medicines are poisons if given in the wrong dosage. Fentanyl's problem is the very low dosage, which is in the micrograms (1/1000 of a milligram). Weighing something that small is a problem, especially for pushers and drug adulterers. It is 50-100 times more potent than Morphine, which has a maximum dose of 10 milligrams by injection.

@erzahler1930 Think about how strong that is: 25 micrograms divided by three days is 8.3 per day, and then divide that by four, for every six hours, and that is 2.08 micrograms, which is the regular dosage I've heard. 2.08 times 500 is 1.04 milligrams, or about one tenth the maximum dose of Morphine. 1000 times wouldn't even equal the full dose, only 1/5th of it. 5000 times would be the equivalent (2.08 x 5000 = 10.4 milligrams). The 50 to 100 times as potent figure that the government gives, I think, is for those that are on very high doses of Morphine.

@erzahler1930 By pill I take it, and probably extended release? It takes more by mouth than it does IV or injection; I think about three to four times as much, but I could be wrong. 90 divided by four times per day is 22.5 mg, and divide that by 3 is 7.5 mg every six hours if taking an injection. That's about 3/4 of a full IV dose, so it's not as bad as it could be, but it's up there.
