It should look to be a religion, because at the roots of communism, was heterodox religion, such as the Adamites, Neo-Adamites, Antinomianism, and Millenarianism. They wanted their imaginary "golden age," which was supposedly the time of Adam and Eve, back, where they claim no law existed, and man could do as he will, and openly commit every sin imaginable. They wished to tear down all states, religions, and laws, with force, and enforce their heretical religion on everyone else. Those that didn't agree would be put to death. Others have called them "Edenists."
.
"Millenarianism is used to refer to a more cataclysmic and destructive arrival of a utopian period as compared to millennialism which is often used to denote a more peaceful arrival and is more closely associated with a one thousand year utopia."
.
"Antinomianism (Ancient Greek: ἀντί, "against" and νόμος, "law") is any view which rejects laws or legalism and argues against moral, religious or social norms (Latin: mores), or is at least considered to do so."
.
You can read about the Adamites here, as it's too vulgar to write about: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adamites
