  1. As Dennis knows, there were several schools of thought within the different ancient Judaic sects, but the one that believed in a life after death, or that our soul (our consciousness), being a part of Gods, returns to God, and would be judged, was the Pharisees. Jesus Christ was also a Pharisee, and he believed the same thing. One Judaic sect even believed, somewhat, in reincarnation. However, being judged after death, goes back to ancient Sumeria, where the liars were shunned in the afterlife. Genesis 6:3: "And the LORD said, "My spirit shall not always strive with [live in] man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.""__KJV My words in brackets. See below for ref. "Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.”"__ESV "And the LORD said: 'My spirit shall not abide in man for ever, for that he also is flesh; therefore shall his days be a hundred and twenty years.'"__JPS Tanakh Strive With, or Abide, means to literally live within. The NIV has this entirely incorrect, along with a few other translations. The JPS Tanakh is the authority on the OT. Also, since the Lord creates both Good and Evil (see Isaiah 45:7), and God's soul is our soul, we can be both good and evil, because we have free will, the same as God. We were made in the Lord's image. Isaiah 45:7: "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things."__KJV "I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil; I am the LORD, that doeth all these things."__Tanakh When the soul goes back to God, the creator (the ALL of nature), it will be judged, because God, the creator, knows all. Man is a part of God's intelligence, thus God, the creator, sees and knows all. The soul leaves, and goes back to the whole, or the ALL, at the time of death. To understand this more, read the translated Zohar, especially the chapter on Genesis.
