  1. I remember when this happened; I was a young at the time. After moving to southern Ohio in 1987, I travelled through West Virginia almost daily, and visited Buffalo Creek while in the area. Such a sad thing that happened back then. There was a significant effort to inspect slush ponds following this incident, as they were widespread throughout the tri-state area of Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia.
