You'll find that most of their ideas developed within the church, especially Protestantism. That was where the idea of communal living and not owning anything came from, which they copied from the Catholic monasteries. That led to the Quakers, Brownists, Hutterites, and several other sects. Robert Owen obtained his ideas from it. It also gave the Jews the idea, living in the Pale of Settlement, which led to the kibbutzim. That is the real roots of socialism and communism, and it continued as Christian Socialism and the Social Gospel.
