When Marx didn't see the Jacobin revolutions take over everywhere, as he predicted, he couldn't believe it either. He also cast blame everywhere but on the movement itself, for a while, until he was finally changed in 1862, though, publicly, he still spieled propaganda.
In 1862, unable to support his family, Marx wrote to Engels:
"Say what you will, dear boy, it really is embarrassing to have to bother you as I do with my miseries! If only I knew how to start some sort of business! All theory, dear friend, is grey, and only business green. Unfortunately, I have come to realize this too late."
He also admitted in 1872 that:
"... we do not deny that there are countries like England and America... where labour may attain its goal by peaceful means."
I think Labour might learn something from those words, as well as the Democrats in the US.
