The US Govt knew what the CCP would do when Xi took power in 2012, as they dismantled the law that prevented US media from spreading propaganda on the nation's public that same year. However, that propaganda didn't just come from the US, but from the G7 nations, and from within the UN. It was because BRICS was formed back in 2006, and it grew from there over the next six years. The CCP was caught red handed in the corrupt ways that they do business with the west, and they have violated the terms of the WTO, which they were allowed into under Clinton. On top of their bad faith trading is their expansionism. I guess that the CCP thought that the west would just sit back and allow them to continue exploiting the western nations, and expand as they have, while threatening the west's allies.
