  1. To be fair, Nixon had a good excuse to do what he did, as it was about anti-communism. What started it was the Pentagon Papers, which had been leaked by Daniel Ellsberg, because beforehand, Eisenhower had placed Nixon in what was known as the 303 Committee, which was the anti-communist operation. They were also wishing to spy on the Ds to unearth the subverters in their party. Nixon, however, went about it wrong over it being political, and instead of using the CIA and FBI, he recruited retired CIA and FBI for the Plumbers, and they were mostly screwups like Liddy. That's what got them caught.
