  1. Before our nation was founded, in Virginia, the colony had state religion, and that religion was Anglican. If you uttered a word against it, or preached another religion, you could be flogged in the town square. Maryland, just across the Potomac, was founded by Lord Baltimore, to accept all religions. Things, such as this, are why we have the Constitution, and its appendix, the Bill of Rights.
