What I have noticed with the liberal left are two things. It's mostly made up of narcissists, and those at the top of the ideology have an ulterior motive, in that they'll have a two-class society, with them being wealthy and running things, while those outside of the “party” are made to be nothing more than chattel slaves, who own nothing. That was why Engels was so infatuated with the ideas of Robert Owen, and with the French philosophers such as Henri de Saint-Simon.
