  1. One could argue that it has been tried with Robert Owen's New Lanark mill, which is what Engels loved. That was corporate control of everything concerning the worker, and it was a form of enslavement, because it made the worker completely dependent on the factory owner. If you didn't get along, or your output in labor wasn't enough, you could be booted out with nothing but the clothes on your back. You didn't own anything, except for the essentials, such as clothing, which was bought by company script, not government currency. Sadly, this idea was taken up by the mining industry, for a time, which was what the first labor unions worked so hard to quash.

  3.  @postmodernmining  The only difference between the Soviet state and Robert Owen's mill, was that it switched from full corporate control over the worker, to full state control. Those that refused to comply, or those that were seen as not sharing the load, were either shot, or sent to the gulags, instead of being booted from the mill. I cannot fathom why some still want to live while being enslaved to the state.

  5. That's a fact. Most of this originates from Christian Socialism and the “social gospel.” That was how much of the ideology was spread. It came to the US, to Boston, by an Anglican sect that started the Church of the Carpenter. They also ran the Karl Marx School. When it started to fail in that state, they moved operations to NYC, and the rest is history. That was how it made its way into the university at Columbia U and spread.

  6.  @dominuslogik484  I'm 59, now, and grew up through the Cold War. I remember when the wall fell in Berlin, and I said at that time, it will take a long time for those states to recover. The only people that had money were labeled the “Cold War Castoffs,” and they were organized crime figures from the black market. That's who ended up stealing all the major industries for pennies on the dollar, with Yeltsin's help. That's why there is so much corruption in the old bloc today.
