Denmark is an interesting case, here university is both free and you get a basic income to pay rent and live for. However governments continously cuts and reduces these benefits to the point where the basic income is no longer as useful, for example you can currently have 7 years of payments, but they want to make it 5 years only. This means that if you pick a wrong education 1 year in and change, youre screwed for your last exam year in your 5 year education. Worse people may only do their bachelor that takes 3 years instead of doing the full 5 year education

@jasonwhitley9298 any form of discrimination is bad. Your logic is like saying "murder always happens therefore there is nothing we can do to systemically minimize it." We should work to minimize murder in society, same way we need to minimize discrimination. That's a sociological effort, not an individual one.

@networknomad5600 in general yes, you don't need to have lived or experienced something to comment or make arguements out from it. But the stupid claim is made of "no one has ever" that already disproves itself because its such an extreme hyperbole. Just one anecdote disproves the entire arguement. And if the real arguement is "its so rare or fringe it doesn't matter" then again, we can look at many studies and surveys of young people, gender roles are constantly pushed on them, even if it happens less than it did 50 years ago. And even then, one kid being discriminated for their gender and pushed away from following their passion, is one kid too many.

The worst example I encountered is when I worked in a restaurant with a psychotic boss. He was never in the restaurant, instead managing other businesses (he is one of those, used to be poor, now rich and flaunts it everywhere types). He would hire his own teenage son that no one in the restaurant liked, worked slow, was arrogant, sexist and homophobic constantly. But he was secured that job because his father owned the place. Meanwhile the hardest working waitress got fired after working there 4 years. She took less breaks than the other and always gave it her all, yet she was fired out of the blue. The boss prefered to hire high school graduates who took a gap year, keep them for a year ish, then hire new people to keep wages down. Of course the restaurant never did as well as it could if he kept the skilled workers instead. The only thing that made job place decent was his wife who was the waiter manager and a waitress herself. She was super sweet and encouraging to everyone, but you never know you did bad in the eyes of the psychopath until 2 months later when 3rd of your salary is illegally missing.

What you're talking about is litterally the "systems vs individuals" dilemma, something you learn about in the first hour of sociology class 😂 There is a ton of policies and changes you can do to culture. As one example from the video ad data show, discrimination is lower if its closer to 50/50 men and women in a given field. So trying to get to that outcome would have a positive effect of having less sexism in the field.

@ryankmdkt she was more qualified, more skilled and more productive. By meritocracy logic she should be earning more, not him. There are more variables than those and gender, but there is clearly a bias present. It's an anecdote on an individual level, but if there was no gender inequality this would never happen

@Pensnmusic oh yea the Danish Healthcare system has stalled. Mental healthcare is not free and only if you're in deep shit do you get any help by the government. That and dental care are the blinds pots right now, but since the neoliberalism wave our Healthcare has been stuck and centrist and right wing politicians keep having wet dreams of more privatisations and higher health inequality in society

@Oujouj426 no, you only get the money while studying. But your remaining years are paused. So if you have 2 years left you can get it again if you go back to studying 10 years later etc. However as an adult you'd likely want to work too, because the student lifestyle in a small apartment with roomamte(s) is the only thing the payment affords you (it's around 800 dollars per month after tax) And yes it's very shortsighted, only done to fit the next year's budget and tax cuts for the rich. Government keep cutting costs on the young generation because old Boomer voters is what they care more about. 3 decades of centrists and right wing governments have also meant that we completely lost sight of all the long term and non-monitary values in public spending sadly. The benefit is that "welfare" is so engrained in our culture that it's extremely taboo to suggest removing systems or fully privatising, so instead right wing politicians try to slowly chip away and erode the systems to get to their end goals.

@kha30s22 I would guess its about his christian/conservative bias making nature more important than nurture. He always defaults to biological and innate explanations for social and sociatal problems. I would guess he makes inaccuracies in psychology because of that as well.

@andshescallingacab4346 many doctors and nurses travel to Norway to work after studying in Denmark becuse in Norway they have better wages and work conditions and their Healthcare is less starved for money.

You need to make a follow up video with studies in scandinavian welfare states, because they are a case study where most expendatures are paid by the state, however unions and big orginasations keep the system running, its a weird mixed economy when it comes to that aspect. Also switzxerland is interesting where everything is almost private, but insurance being funded by the state. Its like the US system but not sucking

@jasonwhitley9298 advertise the job for more people of the other gender. Fund programs in middle and high school so the profession gets more exposure. Change ciriculums in middle schools so students touch on that field briefly. There are a million billion things you can do.
