Like much of the Bible, especially the Old Testament, this Judas story is misleading unless you have a deep esoteric understanding to see through its symbolism. Take it literally and, like much of the Bible, you won't get it. Judas "betrayed" Jesus as part of the perfect plan. All is absolutely fated, and Judas kissed Jesus for the exact same reason that "believers" await a physical Kingdom of GOD, when Jesus explained that it has nothing to do with the physical world at all. Judas knew that Jesus could miraculously avoid harm and "betrayed" him only to try and move him to expedite the coming of the Kingdom of GOD. Like most modern Christians, he didn't understand what it is, even with Jesus himself as his tutor! Judas repeated the original error ("Original Sin"), once you know what that was as I do.
