Also, haven't Rafah already been invaded and attacked several times? Even if hamas was stupid enough to build bases there they would had been destroyed ages ago.

it's possible. More probable, in my opinion, is that hamas is launching rockets from somewhere else and the israelites are lying about the launching area.
