The one thing that bothers me about the Alien franchise is that no one has made a sequel to 1986's Aliens. It's been almost 40 years and there is just TWO films in the entire franchise. Just two. :(

Judging from the thumbnail, the only canon Diznee Star Wars held onto was 'There are no bras in space'.

"Writers genuinely seem to care more about the race and gender of a character than any of their other traits." When you state it that way, it almost seems like the writers are...racist and sexist. Weird. That's not what Martin Luther King Jr. wanted.

Ironically, that character was so well written with a full arc is because Ripley was written as a male lead. Weaver came into read for Veronica's part, and won over the producers. She was Ripley. Ripley wasn't a kickass female character, she was a kickass character that ended up being female. Cheers!

@slevinchannel7589 "Drinker is really Agreeable for a Right-Winger,..." I'm curious why you stated that. I am liberal AF and I agree with many points he makes. They are not right wing, they're just common sense.
41
This happens more now than ever sadly.
23
Drinker you are spot on here, as usual. They say 'you don't know someone until you live with them.' and it's true. Now that we have access to celebs 24/7, it's like living with them, and now that we know them, we aren't impressed.
21
"Do not question. Consume and Obey." -Disney, probably

@johngeiger3770 Agreed. Ironically, that character was so well written with a full arc is because Ripley was written as a male lead. Weaver came into read for Veronica's part, and won over the producers. She was Ripley. Ripley wasn't a kickass female character, she was a kickass character that ended up being female. Cheers!
13
Wow. That's an important, serious point you make there. Hehe I just farted.
11
@WillDreamer As the saying goes: There aren't may Feminists as a cruise ship is sinking.

@enekaitzteixeira7010 yes. Left-wing would be a nickname for liberal side of the political spectrum in the US and Canada.
7
A great point!
7
@anthonyobryan3485 HAHA totally true! I would like to add that the Xenomorph would also most likely be re-written from a female to male. That way, Ripley can really cut loose! 😆
7
LOL does she have a sister?
7
@marvintilly for reals? Is her skin pack darker in the game, since she clearly has so much White Guilt?
6
@EthanDarke umm...shoes don't need shoelaces...
6
Which was from the EU that was deemed NON canon.
6
ronically, that character was so well written with a full arc is because Ripley was written as a male lead. Weaver came into read for Veronica's part, and won over the producers. She was Ripley. Ripley wasn't a kickass female character, she was a kickass character that ended up being female. Cheers!

@Khalael1416068 because, unfortunately, they don't want a woman running alongside James Bond, they want him GONE! That way there can be no rivalry or comparisons, and therefore she is the BEST!
5
@Alamo-cz5xc Zing!!
5
What are you talking about? That film doesn't even exist! The Hunger Games was THE FIRST MOVIE to have a female action star. Ever. ....According to Jennifer Lawrence and her director.
5
@EvilDoresh LOL he really needs to learn his place!
5
hahaha zing!!
4
@kelleymaxwell3875 but maybe Indy doesn't get taken over by a woman character? It's just some internet rumor...
3
6:31 LOL I never thought Drinker's answer to Modern Cinema's current diminishing returns is "Hollywood needs more diversity."🤣🤣🤣
3
@EthanDarke I get your point tho. Actually, it is a pretty good analogy for Dizznee 'we don't need a good story' (shoe), but they will eventually learn that their films work way better with one (shoelace)
3
Ironically, Ripley was written as male, but Weaver got the part because she embodied the character. Her character is amazing and iconic not because she was female, but because it was so well written. This proves the point that gender does not matter, only good storytelling and character arcs do.
3
@31minutesago feel clever with that comment, 'Edge Lord'?
3
Hi Greta! Sorry no one really likes your movie. At least you got to sneak a peek of Margot Robbie changing clothes while on the film set. 😉
3
@alexandrugabriel3839 Zack's was better? I couldn't make it 30 minutes into that hot garbage. Between Wonder Woman literally outrunning fully automatic weapon fire without getting a scratch - twice, to the insufferable songs, I just...couldn't.
3
@aa-ze5cz Dude, Jonathan is serious. Navy recruiters literally set up tents outside movie theaters showing Top Gun and recruited thousands on their way out of the movie.
2
@Patrickitron What took YOU so long? I cancelled my subscription during the Gina Carano BS. ;-)
2
Agreed. Because the rest of the Disney Star Wars movies are such hot garbage, Rogue One by comparison is elevated out of the sludge. Kinda like being the best basketball player on the worst team.
2
@mattstorm6568 "You obviously don't know much about MLK." Clearly not as much as you. According to Google, you are the world's foremost expert on the life, times, and scandals of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. So, please enlighten me, and everyone here about your vast knowledge of this fallen icon. Share with us what he really wanted for race relations in America and the world at large.
2
"If I have to hear one more 17 year old or younger comment some stupid shit like, “I’m X years old and I feel the same way.” I’m gonna lose my mind." Sooo....you're getting upset because so many people agree with you comment?? Seems like a really petulant thing to whine about. Don't worry tho, that was probably the last popular, good idea you'll have, so you won't be bothered by this 'inconvenience' anymore. Enjoy your misery, Giggles!
2
@Vanziethel Haha didn't put that together. Thanks!

It is indeed a sad state of affairs with the superhero genre. I never actually got into it at all until the pandemic. We had nothing to do, so we checked out some Phase One Marvel films. They were actually quite good! We've now seen them all up until the last two Avengers films (no spoilers, please), and have avoided pretty much all Phase 4 and all of Diznee (LGBQT)+ streaming shows. After we watch the last two films in Phase 3, I'll be good. Is there anything else decent we should check out before we close that chapter for good?
2
Well said. Rewarded for being a selfish ass.
2
THIS! I came here to say something similar. I think we will find in the next few years that Will Smith is the next Johnny Depp.
2
I see what you mean. I did predict the ending of Cinderella recently because I work in the industry and know how Hollywood writers think nowadays, and sadly I was almost spot on. It was like a slow moving train wreck :(
2
And Ripley worked because she was written as a strong lead character. A male lead. That's why she translated so well - she's a strong lead character - no purpose written grrl boss here.
2
bad songs don't become good songs, they just become familiar ones.
2
Another negative message these films imply is that if you were not born perfect - don't try. Only the 'born withs' will succeed. What a horrifying thought to convey to young ones in our culture These 'hero' characters are narcissistic and selfish because the are just a reflection of the writer's personalities. These people are sacrificing good scripts and billions of movie budget dollars for films with "The Message" and questionable ethics because they want it that way. It's repugnant.
2
@kwetinka0170 That kinda reminds me of the last season of Dexter.... :(
2
Why does your Mom have to be so misogynistic and racist?
2
So napalm? The 'heroine' took out a village with women and children using napalm??
2
I've only seen it once back in the day, but I do remember the suspension of disbelief being too big to ignore. So much time has elapsed that humans and sea creatures have evolved into completely different subspecies (10's of thousands of years), but there is still gas and the knowledge to make jet skis function? There is no land anywhere, so where did they get all of stuff to make floaty cities? I think that is one of the reasons it didn't do well. Maybe things are more plausible in the Director's cut. Has anyone seen that version? Cheers!
2
Every scene should have Poochie in it. And we he is off screen, all of the other characters should be asking "where's Poochie??"
2
Nuh uh, those were all clever 'gotcha' moments made to subvert the audience's expectations :D
