  1. It's simple greed. Look at the salaries and pensions. An awful lot of suits exist in this industry not producing anything. You've got rail companies fining network rail if works over runs, even by a few minutes. You've got ageing victorian infrastructure. You've got committees in committees, unions and meetings. In the end the railway companies will price out the majority and loose all over again, the car wins. Should we look at which lines are still viable? They are incapable of running an acceptable service across it all. Embarrassing really. Theses bosses much like our politicians are unaware or ignorant of the issues.

  3. Failing to invest correctly, blaming/fining each other. Now they are over priced. It's quick fixes all over. Costing more in the long run. Soon they will fall apart. You want the people to use public transport but charge more than car ownership for a year ticket. The Europeans rebuilt theirs as they were wrecked after a little punch up with the hun. The French lifted there disused track but kept the land. We sold ours off,built all over it. Now when the French need a railway, they already have the land. Just needs track. Clever really.
