We all remember the 1950s british government that did this and cancelled almost every aviation project.. generations of aerospace technology thrown away in just a few years..

They had also invaded south Georgia .. which is not even a territory that was ever held by spain

Yes but Ukraine is in an active war and military budgets peacetime have little relevence.... the main thing is that these weapons are to defend the usas own arse and interests which are large things... As such having Ukraine perform a draw down on russian military power will be extremely beneficial for the usa as it requires zero manpower loss whilst already almost destroying russian military capacity. .. thus ccp war can go ahead without undue distraction... It should take no more than 10 to 15 more weeks to put russia in a position where it cannot project power for 2 to 3 years and if the war goes on another 5 to 6 months then russia will probably be crippled for 5 to 10 years... so win win win... shareholders of the western armaments industry rejoice.

Mig 23 were rarely flyable when they worked..

No.. it's always best to have a completely clear view of what's happening.. once firing starts modern systems soon become cluttered... and battles are often balanced on detail. .. Good point about the full moon...

The USN could have done with a few squadrons of swordfish fitted for night operations... would have been a surprise for the IJN
9
Probably.. as with f117... they will have a squadron with operational capacity very quickly.. but not announce this
9
I'm fairly sure that there are many ex service f16 pilots that would sign up as ukranian combat pilots.. why has usa obviously blocked this
9
I knew that a few were made... it's a pity that we didn't have some available Re mid atlantic .. might even have been able to reuse some.. would beat doing a hurricat job any day..
8
I remember this from the time... a very good idea.. now being revisited with computer controlled drones for loads and I suspect for use as single person casevac purposes allowing a unit to indicate the number of casualties and the correct number of loitering units moving in to take them directly to a suitable aid station or hospital.

The Biplane fighter.... and perhaps bomber... but not the TSR0 CR42 was quite good... but lacked endurance.... or capable pilots.... the handling characteristics of good biplanes should not be ignored and upto early 42 could only be rated as obsolescent not obsolete... as many suboptimum monoplane fighters were still in service at that point..

Turning a kamikaze glider into.. a kamikaze glider.. err.. grief.. Germany.. nuff said

I doubt anything but the simplest of generalisations can cover the complexities of the eastern Mediterranean area...
7
They could get some good money from collectors for a few t34 and sus. .. probably enough for a few more upgrades..
6
I think argentina was after that time.. maybe they think he was spanish.. I guess their next step would be to set up an antarctic base and goto war with Australia the usa etc... not sure what with...
6
Made with metal supplied by the usa .. The near total reliance on western high quality materials would have made any clearing out of ussr from Europe in 1945 46 a relatively simple matter..

I'd love to know what he knows about SA citizens with US heavy weaponry destroying a certain south philippino city a few years back....
5
The French had small prop aircraft with wire guided he or at missiles long before helecopters got in on the act seriously
5
Squadron personnel who are fitters etc are not flight crew... they are however combatants.. and are not refered to as non combatants ...
5
It's likely a perfectly good vehicle that would chew through chinese units with a good exchange rate... it has the quality of quantity
5
2 or 3 hundred cavalry Bradley would be the most quickly adoptable and most effective aid that can be supplied..
5
With all those observation positions and a bomb bay ... this looks like an excelent coastal patrol aircraft ..
5
Yes much less embarrassing to say your crew sunk their own flagship by smoking in the magazine that lost in combat....
5
A bit like the albacore over the swordfish.. but they had issues with refraction on all that glass. ..
5
Honestly... my brain was identifying 3 different aircraft when I looked at that thumbnail ..... Really the mig 21 really just needed the cockpit moved up a bit with an all round canopy
5
Maybe the Argentine belongs to Britain and maybe chile as well... we need to ask the chinese.. they are good at map reading... oh hold on USA belonged to UK .. want that back as well.. and Germany and France... heck.. we still legally own calais.... holand.. etc etc... Or maybe we can just all spend more money on infrastructure and you know.. useful sht.. like curing cancer .. and suchlike

That wing does look kind of scoutship (traveller rpg) style..

Lucky for the soviets getting a clean disengagement ...

I'd so rather serve in a mosquito

Ukraine has had years to prepare.. they could have put 100000 men into construction regiments and build bunkers and tunnels etc they should have had every bridge and many road sections pre set for demo..... airfields absolutely hardened with bunkers for personnel and weapon racks etc all ready to go..... literally thousands of hunter teams with supply stashes pre positioned and so on and so forth.... They could have had 100 000 regular army 100 000 immediate reserves.... 100 000 primary militia and secondary reserves and so on and so forth... Instead they posted drone footage and videos of arming ununiformed civilians and training 10 and 12 year old kids..... The arrogance of their politicians in the last few years has been severe... the have let down their people and only the bravery of the common citizen is making up in any way for their lethargy....
4
Fairly resilient to bombing... If you got 50 B10s with incendiaries and did a raid on a wooden german city at the time... in middle of summer... it would almost certainly have suffered a firestorm... most of the firefighting personnel were raised after bombing campaigns started.... so if you just turned up and blitzed them.. there would be minimum ability to deal with this..
4
Lol.. 70 million each and another 70 million for 15 years support...
4
They abandoned the ship whilst it was on fire.. so yes it's a total loss... The firat cruiser destroyed in open conflict since the falklands war... Reminds me of when blucher decided to disrespect that krupp gun battery... The area is basicly a basin so I expect this will not be the last large hull lost...
4
A slightly larger wing with better air brakes and also a hot-run option for remaining engine would have resolved the issues nicely
3
Looks like a good design.. yet again showing that if the war continued we would have been able to field more useful aircraft..
3
Hey.. give them a break.. flooding a magazine requires several seconds of work to turn the valve.. Russian military is not equipped to handle such complex operations...
3
Someday they will have an effective ornithopter. . Would be a very effective military asset... but at least 50 years away.. likely three times that
3
Yup he just admitted to breaking international law.. perhaps the UN will authorise deployment to remove argentina from the antarctic. .. too many countries making claims of scientific bases which have military uses only.. expunge the international criminals
3
Most of the carriers.. which included carden loyd rather than universal that were kept operable were converted into half track trucks for the eastern front alongside pz1 track units... the actual use of tanks was (except some latest cruiser) fairly negative and resulted in a lot of wasted work... I know some of these mobile arty pieces might have looked good but in reality the suspension broke and the shields were not as advertised armoured plate but mild steel... in deed many german track conversions to gun carriages used mild steel which was reported at the time (they billed for armour plate) as this plate was needed for half armoured carrier production... the 2pdr guns were the most useful prize along with light vehicles and small arms.... only a modest amount of all this was at Dunkirk however (in terms of heavy equipment) with much abandoned many miles away or in different areas altogether... quite unlike the lines of well maintained french tanks just handed over by some units not all of their army... radio equipment was also not properly sabotaged and this was useful... but really I woulf have to say the 2 pdr because of the ammo captured was the most useful for about 12 to 18 months of everything taken....
3
One could imagine a swordfish still finding some utility in 2021 ....
3
Probably fly from our carriers... almost no fixed wing aircraft available... fit with a brimstone launcher or something (can take the weight)... photo recon with a pod... target towing... deploying mines to close the straits of gib... anti pirate work.. (just add some sneb pods) etc...
3
Good.... We can test out an arsenal of new weapons and help Ukraine at same time... Already learning a lot about russian weapon limitations and characteristics....
3
A period in history where usa propped up the pakistan terror state vs a democracy... thus helping chinese communists also attack a democracy... Yes usa really sucks
3
The us military wanted more skyraider for CAS but were told the line had closed and they would have to take the replacements... 60 plus years later
3
Could it have taken a merlin engine?
3
When I saw them adding light metal tube structures months ago (red effect channel) I assumed that they would use these to hold a tray that would then be filled with plastic armour (Re ww2)... which would have prvoided actual protection vs splinters and defeated at least one warhead through detonation ..

Reminds me of the siege of Rhodes. ..
