  4. @luvr381 Britain had plenty of money.. they just kept wasting it in ill conceived and ill executed.public works projects (rail freight infrastructure, and terrible housing developments plus other communist stuff).. they forced companies to amalgamate and straight up defrauded companies with pointless development contracts, only to cancel the projects.. you might not be aware of this but one example is when vickers weybridge facility made a really good anti tank missile in the late 50s.. the government refused to buy it and kept writing letters telling others not to order it or acknowledge it's existence as the government wanted to close the site (a privately owned company) and did not want them encouraged.. the missile went on to be sold to others.. the usa bought a licence and the british army ended up having to ask for them... many of these forced mergers and closures were complete misuse of power against what were private companies.. to top this off in the 70s the government then nationalised many of the sectors, which was outright theft of private assets for which they never paid the correct compensation, not that that would justify the seizure of private property anyway... in fact all the government managed to achieve was to destroy britains competitive ability.. stifle most good products that were ready for sale and weaken the nations position.. meanwhile buying 100s of canberra aircraft because the communist agent in the air ministry demanded that all pilots train regularly, landing with one engine switched off (not fethered, shut down completely) resulting in 100s upon 100s of crew casualties... this has nothing to do with money and everything to do with willful destruction of the nations ability to defend itself and function..
