  1. Considering that petrol engines were utterly rubbish in that era and steam was thoroughly understood (comparatively) I can see the idea having merit

  2. If you removed the condenser and put the weight saved into increasing endurance to 20 plus minutes, then this would have made an excellent training aircraft for naval aviators.
