  3. We're obsessed with inflation because it destroys incomes and savings. We learned that in the 70s. Inflation may drop again after a period of high inflation, but you're left with the higher prices. There is no period of negative inflation.

  4. A tractor could cost £150k. A new combine could be easily £600k. A farmer doesn't buy such machinery and then leave it lying around, and its driver doing nothing for most of the time. That would tie up and waste capital which could be better used elsewhere. He would not make a profit, and he'd get undercut by more intelligent farmers. You'd have thought an economist would understand this sort of economic mechanism. Sure back in the old days a simple tractor would have been cheap and there wasn't much competition. Food prices were then much higher as a result due to lower productivity.

  10. Devolution has already happened, and it's been a disaster. It has attacked and down-graded England, the only part of the union with no parliament. The devolution referenda should have included English voters - if you change the constitution then you are also changing the constitutional settlement for England. So England should have been consulted rather than ignored. Even "English votes for English laws" got scrapped by the socialist establishment. Devolution should be scrapped, the parliaments in Wales and Scotland should be scrapped. If we are one nation then we only need one parliament - not four. Wales and Scotland have produced extremist governments and they are failed states - in Scotland's case, a fascist, racist government operated by its 1930s-founded, blood-and-soil, Scottish nazi party.

  12. It's in the national interest to keep the land in agricultural use. If it remains in agricultural use, the farmer doesn't get suddenly rich, they keep farming it and earning about £30k per year. It's the same as owning a house. It may be worth hundreds of thousands but you cannot realise it because you have to live somewhere. Starmer's policy will destroy family farms. He wants that because the land can then be plastered with shit box new-builds to house his favorite demographic, i.e. illegal immigrants and terrorists. And the money he is raising from this tax is being handed to farmers in Africa to subsidise them. It's pure communist treachery.

  16. There is no reason why a tractor driver who is hired by the hour can't be as skilled as a tractor driver who has been working for the same employer for several years. If one long-term tractor driver is replaced eventually by another, then unless there is a meeting between the two, the part of the field where the goldfinches nest will be unknown to the new tractor driver. The responsibility for that sort of information getting passed on is with the land owner. But this is not the sort of thing happening right now in Britain. More likely is that the tractor will be sold, the driver sacked, and immigrants (some illegal) used to do the work by hand, thus lowering productivity, damaging growth, and causing the GDP/head of Britain to collapse, thus causing public services to collapse and causing a housing crisis. This is happening because the LibLabCon uniparty establishment want to destroy Britain as quickly as possible [edit] by means of mass uncontrolled immigration. This is their goal because like Riccardo here, they have the woke mind virus and they believe in a no-borders world with no nation states.

Also I am confused as to why "accounting policy" (of which he is a professor) is regarded as an academic field of study. There are accounting rules and standards (e.g. how to account for depreciation etc) and that's that. I don't see how this is a subject worthy of academic study. So I slot Richard into the box marked "left-wing academic" rather than "economist". Essentially, this channel is just more left wing politics.
