+MrHPJunkie The only reason this is the price of a based 3 is because this car is on its own soil. Once it goes in Europe, it'll be more expensive than all its competitors. In my country, based on how the Model S' price has inflated compared to the US, this car is most likely to start at around 40k €. Which is a bit more than a base 3 series, but once the really futuristic options are added, you'll be closer to 50k. And in the luxury aspect, the C Class will rape it, same thing for the quality with Audi, sportiness with BMW, and overall appeal with Jaguar. This car does not crush the competition as much as you think, especially with the fact there aren't actually that much Superchargers.

+Red Smith The C-Class ? The 4 Series Gran Coupe ? The new A4 (photos don't do it justice btw) ? The Jaguar XE ? The Alfa Romeo Giulia ? The Lexus IS ? Saying this could be the best looking car in its class while it competes against a Jaguar is so cringe-worthy... And btw you're the one freaking out saying this looks fantastic, because there is barely any good real life shots, and its not 100% finalized as a product.

+SeriousCat An head turner ? Are you drunk, blind or both ? An Aston Martin DB11 is an head turner. An Aventador is an head turner. A Rolls Royce Dawn is an head turner, but this ? Not even close.

Konstantinos Kostis That's not taste anymore, it becomes common sense. Saying the Huayra is an head turner is common sense, just like saying this car will not turn head is. A 911 doesn't turn heads nowadays, it's not Prius-shaped Tesla that will, it doesn't make sense.

Red Smith The problem of this car is not the lack of grill, stop making excuses. The Porsche Mission E has no grill, and besides one or two pure haters, every one praised Porsche for making such an awesome looking concept. The BMW i8 also has no grill and is often described as one of the very best looking production road cars on the market right now. And you know the people that like it are the same kind of people to order the car before even knowing what it is about. Tesla is the Apple of cars, and even if the iPhone 7 looks like crap, people will still pray it just because it's an Apple product. And you know i'm right with that last point. Some people go as far as calling this a stunning car, and an head turner !

Red Smith That's a bit hypocrite because i'm typing this on a MacBook Pro... But i love cars and i'm pretty sad that some people are completely blind folded by Elon Musk. The Model S has received lots of bad thoughts of owners in regards of quality and reliability. Just like some people think Tesla is the only one to offer Autonomous driving while BMW and Mercedes also do it... Yes Tesla is great, but not that great.

Red Smith Well as far as sales go, this car has 300k orders, but it comes in 2017. For the price point, that's not a lot... Most sales will occur in the beginning of its life, due to the nature of the product (apple and new gen console-like hype). I bet this will not be the massive success everyone thinks about. Don't forget for each generations, there are between 1.5 and 2 million 3 Series sold worldwide.

Terry Price Unless they are limited production cars, manufacturers never communicate preorder numbers. The only reason why there are such a big amount of preorders is because people know Tesla can't build them quick enough and they don't want to wait until the car is obsolete to grab one. This problem does not exist with the germans, with most of their models they are waiting for you. Not because they don't sell, as the numbers show (the F10 5 Series just passed the 2 million mark), but because they're prepared. BMW's Munich factory alone produces 500 3 Series per day. That's half Tesla's preorders built in a year, just for the Munich assembly. Tesla went on a segment with huges, huge sales not prepared enough. And btw now that the hype died you can see the preorder count is slowly stabilizing. The sales won't actually be that big for the segment. Revolutionary for electric cars i guess but not that relevant besides the A4, 3 Series and C Class. Jaguar's new XE and Alfa Romeo's future Giulia are also cars that will be problems for the Model 3.

Terry Price How is that non objective ? Tesla just has the Apple effect, people were lining up for just the presentation, that was so ridiculous i felt the cringe. It's pretty obvious the preorders were mainly a direct consequence of the hype. So why are you using the preorders and claiming that it's the biggest number in history, does that make more sense to you ? That's pretty irrelevant. And btw, yes the current number are relevant. The car is due to the end of 2017, not 2030. The Model S is not a direct competitor of the 7, the 7 and the A8, they play in a completely different category. These are premium luxury sedan, their base price match a well optioned model S in most countries, they are not in the same market at all. The Model S, despite its size, is much more comparable to the 5 and the E Class, market-wise. And don't forget that by the time this car touches the road, the C Class will be the oldest model of the segment. the A4 just launched, we have no realistic numbers, so did the Giulia, the XE and the new 3 series is due to 2018. That's a too tough competition for now, especially with a product that doesn't seem to match quality-wise.
