vtecnegro85 This is a production car, and it's called the Mégane RS 275 Trophy-R, which as the exact same specs as the record car. Not to mention that it has 35hp less, and is on an 8 years old platform (yup the Mégane III RS is 8 years old now). Oh and tell that to Alonso who won the global championship, with a Renault back in 2005 and 2006. Not to mention that Vettel won 4 titles in a row with a Renault engine: i think you started to watch Formula 1 when the V6 Turbo came back in 2014. Even more: Renault engine have a total of 11 wins, while Honda only has 5 which is barely half.

vtecnegro85 Are you that dumb ? Renault and Nissan are parts of the same Auto Group. And they still hold the Record, as the Type-R's lap time has never been officially claimed as the fastest for a production FWD, approved by official, therefore the Mégane is still the king. Also the Megane is an 8 Yo car don't forget it: the ctrl is a brain new machine, you'll see how the Mégane 4 RS will destroy every thing. Oh and Renault is the first best engine constructor in F1 after Ferrari and Ford, i think they know what they're doing, with a cumulated 23 titles (11 for pilots, 12 for constructor).

Also if you watched the said video, you have likely seen my comment (i even got answered by Honda) and you'll see that i'm not a "Butthurt Yuropoor" but an open-minded person, and through the comment i've just explained why i don't think this is right, and i did argue not just insult people.

Ezekiel Goldbergsteinowitz I was impressed, because it's impressive. But what i say is that this is not officially recognized today in August 2015 as the fastest lap around the nürburgrin Nordschleife done by an FWD car. Dude it's not a matter of site: they just don't hold the record. they don't have it, at all, it's still at the Renault's one. If car makers did their own shit, road cars would have been under 7 10 years ago, because slicks, weight reduction... if you don't have regulations, everything becomes bullshit.

Stop drugs, that's 7min30, which is almost as fast as the M4 GTS, quicker than the GT350R (which is a really extreme 530hp car), and the giulia QV (which weight just a bit less than the CTR, has 200hp more). It took 10 years for FWD cars to outrun the RS4, so don't think that in less than this time lapse, they'll outrun America's most extreme muscle car. 7min30 ? Nah son. The M4 GTS shaved 25sec by using an in-house drvier (CTR already did), shaving 100kg (possible for the CTR), gaining 75hp (forget that now for Honda), using Cup 2 (possible) and extreme aero (...). Do you really think that with just like 30hp more, 100kg weight and semi slicks, they can get 20s out of an already doubtfull lap ? Renault got 14s out of its lap like that, but the quicker you are the harder it is to become quicker. And their first lap was legit. Plus you don't understand what 8 years mean in the car world. In 8 years, BMW made its regular M3 as fast as their previous gen GTS. 8 years dude, 8 freakin' years. CTR is a small GT-R ? In less than a year, the 308 GTi already is quicker than it, in a straight. That's with 40hp less. It's also 150kg lighter, we'll see how it translates on lap times. The "small GT-R" you're searching for is about to come out. It will have 4 wheel steering (4Control), probably a DCT, more than 300hp, and is part of the same auto group as Godzilla.

Car Nut I see all the guys saying that the lap times are not representative of the reality arguing about why it is not right (Lift off, drift). They're called BMW Fanboys, dickheads, wankers, jealous by the other people, who mostly are Honda Fans. But what do these Honda Fans do to justify the "quicker" lap of the Type R ? Nothing, because besides insulting other people they don't say anything.

xilix That Nürburgring thing is 100% bullshit. The fastest production FWD car around this circuit is the Renault Mégane RS 275 Trophy-R, and it did its lap in 7:54.36 as you can see here https://nurburgringlaptimes.com/lap-times-top-100/ (where there are no sign of M4 or Civic Type R at the date i posted the comment ). Still faster than F430, M5 F10 and Pre-facelift 997 Turbo, 996 GT3 and RS4 B7 though

Ezekiel Goldbergsteinowitz If they never officially said that this is the fastest production car on the Nürb without any doubt, like Renault then Seat then Renault did, it would be okay, but it's not like that make... Nope the GT-R Nismo was, like all the GT-R, completely street legal when it did its lap time, and it was made with a production spec car and very controlled, while Honda did it with a pre-production one with their own team, and that's the difference. Oh and it's not just the Nürb officials dude... They are just the last guy, that set the lap times on their sites, they do not occur for the records.

It has not been declared that this is the official video of the FWD Record (for a World Record it would be everywhere), that's it, AND it's not on the website, because of that. There is also no proof that Honda really putted production tyres, suspensions, or even engine setup. Ezekiel Goldbergsteinowitz Yes the cars are stock, because the officials want them to have a car that someone could buy exactly the way it is. The 918 for example, has the Weissach Package, which is basically the car that did the record. Tires of course have to be street legal, semi slicks or not (semi slicks are legal), but they have to be at least an option on the production car. No they don't: the ones you see on the site all have been watched and verified by officials being here the day of the record, or people qualified for these (You'll often see Sport Auto Magazine that verifies the laps ). The funniest of them all is the porsche conducted test for the 485hp GT-R (first R35 version), which did beat the 997 Turbo xD Oh and the production car doesn't come with that, they can't say it doesn't affect the performance at all, because it does change the weight distribution.

Ezekiel Goldbergsteinowitz I only talked about the base GT-R to give an example, it was damn clear.... The Nismo that did the lap time was 100% stock and street legal, even with optional packages or not it stays the way it is, and it was a production car. Of course they won't do it with the shittiest one... It's not cheating: the Trophy-R comes stock from the factory with semi-slicks, like the GT3 RS and other track-focused cars. There is no clear evidence that Honda didn't use Semi-Slicks or even full track only ones, because only Honda people was there. No it doesn't count as you can't know the specs of the car that set the said lap.

Ezekiel Goldbergsteinowitz Honda did it with a pre-production car, that's why. Nissan did it with a special edition, and that's the difference. Funny enough Seat did something as weird as Honda but rapidly unveiled a package that could setup the car just like the one that had the record. Nissan has a policy of clearness, they even allowed Porsche to lap one of their car to prove how good it is, and it was. Well the Trophy-R does come with all of that, and it has always been specified: you can buy the car that has the record. For Honda, you just can't, and that's the difference. The thing is they add a roll cage at the center and rear of the car, but remove weight mostly at the front, so in a pure their way the center of gravity is moved to the back. Renault managed to get something around 20sec from its previous lap, which is awesome, with an 8yo platform and engine. Honda developed the car just to be the fastest around the Nürb, from the beginning, with Renault and Seat's lap in mind at the end of the development.

Rafal Biernacki Who knows ? This car's original lap time is highly doubtful, so shaving 20 sec of it is even more than doubtful. What you don't seem to know is that VW didn't really tell people which car achieved the lap time until about a year later. As all tests have shown, even a 265 Cup, the car that achieved the previous record, can beat the Cupra 280 (manual) around a track, and the 275 Trophy (non R), can beat the Cupra 280 DSG pretty easily as well. The performances achieved were obviously not with the stock setup, so for the lap to be homologated they launched the 3 stage Sub8 package. The car that achieved the lap time was the Seat Leon SC Cupra 280 Sub8 DSG with: lighter 19" alloy, bigger brakes (by 30mm !!!) with new brembo calipers, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 (same semi-slicks as the trophy-R), no central armrest, no rear vents, no climate control (just heater), and half the number of speakers. So before judging Renault that had to quickly work on their old platform to take the record back while they were developping the next gen, try to be informed. I don't care if the Trophy-R is the slowest one dude. That's the previous gen ! Do Ferrari cares if the M4 GTS is faster than the 458 ? No because 488 GTB is out. Right now, Renault will laught looking at their competitors fighting for their old car's record because they know the new one is miles, miles faster. But you'll see. The new Baby GT-R. The old 4WS was mechanical, the new one is electronic. It's the same concept but not the same thing, and does not give the same results. That's pretty much the difference between the first turbos and the latest hybrid ones. But right now you're on a roll with stupidity. I'll tell you the best performance cars that use the 4 Wheel steering technology, so you'll learn another thing today: Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari F12 TdF. Yes, the fastest road car around the Nürb uses the 4WS. Plus the F12 TdF is the second fastest car around Fiorano. Go give a look at the AutoTop NL video. The 308 GTi pulls more but has traction issues and shifts a lot (short gearing), so it's pretty much as quick to 220.

Nik Brudar The problem is that FWD hatches cannot be more advantaged than by a small track, which is not representative because people don't go in track days on such circuits. Show me the official Nurburgring Lap time of the Type R, then... Oh but you can't, it isn't homologated, and the Mégane RS 275 Trophy-R is still considered as the fastest production FWD car there ! Also the M3's lap time as never be confirmed by BMW.

k20 dude They said that the exterior shot are not from the lap, but they never said a thing about both interior shots and sound. So basically it means that the parts we see on the interior match as well as the sound. So with the sound we learn that sometimes he is hard on the throttle pretty soon and that the tires are spinning, and also that he stops accelerating just before the finish line. Also the interior shots show counter-steering and opposite lock, which means that the car has gone sideways. The M3 is a sub 1.6t 420hp sedan with does 0-60 in less than 4 seconds, and is capable on track to beat the Mercedes C63 AMG S (proven by Motortrend i think not sure but there's a vid) on a normal (average) size track. So yeah M logo means something little boy.

k20 dude At some point you'll have the proof that both this and the controversial Nürb Lap are bullshit and they shouldn't even be compared as the M3 is way faster than this.
