  2. Also the reason there is a "huge gap" between what people should have and do have is that everyone relies on government entitlements (social security and medicare). That's baked into everyone's calculations (if they even do calculations).

  3. That's the thing no one is guaranteed to maintain "current living standards" that you have while working fulltime. You get old, you go out less, you eat less, you buy less toys and live a simpler life. That's retirement.
