The solution is to give higher and faster pay raises. People don't realize tech workers move up in value faster than other industries

It's still your job to communicate in a way he can understand.

You know you're senior when you get a discount at Denny's.

I've been a freelancer from the jump as a software dev and absolutely no regrets on that. I'm doing the software product route now, and yeah it's been a lot of work.

@AFuller2020 Struck a nerve? :) It's just a basic fact, a cure for high turn over is giving adequate raises. In software development jumps in market value come faster than other industries. A 3% raise doesn't cut it when in two years I'm worth 50% more. I can easily go from 50K my first year, to being worth 80K at another company in two years.

Personally I blame the covid era. It felt like falling into a time warp. But programming is part of that.

As a teenager I crashed and burned early on drugs so I never indulged in my career. I won't even drink a beer to unwind, I will find other options.

When I have the time to look for a girl, something will get in the way and I won't have the energy. When I have the energy, I won't have the time. I just had a break from one of my contracts, and it just so happened I developed a stomach bug for exactly that amount of time I had off (2 weeks)! Some people just can't win, lol, but I keep trying anyway.

This reminds me of a start up doing the exact opposite. Small team, this guy just created his app using tried and true tech (RoR, jQuery for a Shopify app) because that was all that was needed. It not only made development faster for him, but when they hired me I could get working on features immediately with little complication. That isn't to say there is never any value in the new frameworks, but by not using anything fancy when he didn't need it, the guy was making a high 6 figure salary and able to hire people to boot.
