He’s not trying to impress any group and there are a lot of conservative Americans, white, black and/or brown that would vote for him. He said the biggest hesitation was his religion, which is reasonable.

Conservatives believe in conserving traditional values like nuclear families, hard work and good education. It was the Christian abolitionists that ended slavery. Black people were Republicans until the Democrats started the welfare state and started buying their votes.
