  1. The band becomes a cover band of itself. Each artist has a limited share of new ideas. When the steam goes off, it is better to switch from writing original songs, which gradually become a caricature of the old ones, to the classic stuff: Jazz/Rock standards, collaborations etc. (Rick's samples perfectly illustrate the point.
