  1. Drones are operated by humans. Torpedoes have a self-guidance system. Some torpedoes have a wire link to steer it, but it is relatively short. Before WWI torpedoes were almost as the dangerous to the battleships as drones now. Ships had funny anti-torpedo installations like nets etc. A close thing the modern drones were torpedo boats. They operated in a swarm. Slave boats were controlled remotely to approach the ship under heavy fire and fire torpedoes at close range.
