  9. As a side note. Celsius degree is not a SI unit. The SI unit for temperature is Kelvin degree. Another commonly non-SI unit used in the "metric countries" is km/h. The SI unit is m/s. Both deviations are real headache when doing computations, but nothing in comparison to inches, feet, knots, furlongs etc.

  13. Quite one-sided Feli. I do not vote for AfD, but not for reasons that they are "far-right" rather because of their pro-Russian position. Otherwise as Peter Hahne, German journalist, who worked for the state propaganda television ARD/ZDF, said that CDU should sue AfD for stealing their 20-year-old party program. And yes, Adolf was a socialist in his ideology: large state, collectivism, social equality etc. It is quite common among socialists and communists to kill each other. Just remember the party struggle in USSR, Zinoviev, Kamenev, Bukharin, Trotsky, all killed by Stalin.

  15. Like any other civilized country Germany is liberal in some aspects and illiberal in others. E.g. Feli mentioned freedom of speech limitations which are very understandable considering the history of, yet still illiberal. You cannot buy cryptocurrency anonymously. You cannot pay cash to your plumber etc.

  19. I think the reason is poor quality of German sausages and ham, because the technology has been changing to reduce the ripening time to zero. You could go to the local butcher before, but small business dies in Germany. I buy only Italian products because some of them still use traditional recipes. Then people stopped preparing food at home as the traditional family disappears. You do not buy meat to eat it raw. The whole culture of family food preparation and eating is dying and so any complex elaborated dishes that would require meat. The salad leaves you can chomp directly on the way from the supermarket. 😂 BTW, the supplements needed by a vegetarian to stay healthy (vegan is out of question) are far more expensive than meat.
