A country is considered a threat to the US if it is successful at building up its economy and at providing economic support and national security for its peoole and it can’t be pushed around and be bullied by the US into doing things it doesn’t want to do - i.e. being forced by the US into giving up its natural resources and industries to the US so that the US could steal them for its own benefit! In China’s case, China refuses to obey the US’s orders to stop building up its economy and to stop advancing its technology sectors to the point that China’s economy and its technologies have become superior to those of the US’s! That is how China is a threat to the US!
