Trump thought this was a great way to get back at China for surpassing the US in various tech and science fields and thought that by accusing Chinese engineers and researchers of spying for the Chinese government the American people would be convinced that what he was saying about Chinese engineers and researchers were spying for China against the US was true. But as concerns started to mount that the China Initiative could hurt the US’s ability to compete with China in the tech fields since Chinese engineers and scientists were some of the most highly sought after in the world the China Initiative was scrapped by the Biden administration. However, the US is still scrutinizing and harassing Chinese engineers and researchers, but in less aggressive manner than before in order to discourage Chinese engineers and researchers from leaving the American corporations and universities where many of them are conducting researches in the tech and science fields)
