I read an extremely insightful article by professor Michael Hudson on his own website explaining what is likely the motivation of the USA. He explains that the motivation is to devalue the Euro by getting the European countries reliant on the dollar and replacing their own currency with it. So American hegemony will continue for some time yet. Please read his article as he is one of the best minds we have today.
